As the ninth great-granddaughter of Susannah Martin, who was tried and hanged as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, I have a vested interest in how my grandmother’s history is preserved and presented.
Unfortunately, across our nation Salem is being taught erroneously in our schools. Most students believe that the tragedy in Salem was due to a jilted love affair between John Proctor and Abigail Williams, but this is not true. Proctor was in his 60s and Abby was only 11. It simply did not happen.
I have spent years researching my family history and the history of the Salem Trials in preparation for this series of historical fiction books. The three-book series is divided chronologically into the few months the trials and hangings happened, presenting facts taken directly from primary sources. By creating a teenage time-traveler who is a descendant of Martin and has a near-perfect memory, I’ve created the perfect platform to introduce readers to the real victims and people of Salem, 1692. You will read actual words spoken by the victims recorded in the annuals of time as my time-traveler tries to change history, which of course, she cannot.
Read my series. You’ll come away with a working knowledge of and a wonderment for all things Salem. The truth is far more interesting than a made-up love affair
